A former police officer in Uzbekistan has been sentenced to seven years in prison for a fatal hit-and-run and attempting to cover up the crime. The incident occurred on the night of December 11, 2025, on the Karasu-Buka-Bekabad highway in the Tashkent region.

The officer, who was drunk, was driving a Nexia-3 when he struck a 43-year-old pedestrian walking along the roadside. Initially, he planned to take the victim to the hospital but later decided to hide the evidence. Together with his wife, he dumped the body into the Dustlik canal.

The body was discovered only 80 days later. Forensic DNA analysis and other evidence linked the former officer to the crime. In court, he fully confessed and asked for leniency, but the victim's widow demanded a just punishment and compensation for moral and material damages.

The court found him guilty under Article 266, Part 2 (traffic violation resulting in death) and Article 134 (desecration of a corpse), sentencing him to seven years in prison and banning him from driving for three years. The verdict can be appealed.
