The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution on June 12, approving a procedure for evaluating inmates' reading and comprehension of spiritual and moral literature in penal institutions.

Under the new rules, successful completion of a test on each book read entitles the inmate to a three-day reduction in their sentence. The document also stipulates that inmates can take tests via a special electronic system.

Test results will be graded on a 100-point scale, with a minimum score of 70 required to pass. The total sentence reduction in one year cannot exceed 30 days.

To ensure transparency, special commissions will be formed in correctional facilities, including both staff and public representatives. Testing will also be monitored via video surveillance systems.

According to the document, a special list of literature for inmates will be compiled jointly with the Republican Center for Spirituality and Enlightenment, the Alisher Navoi National Library, and the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan, with annual updates.
