A criminal case has been opened against the head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Shaykhontohur District Internal Affairs Office in Tashkent, according to the State Security Service.
It was revealed that the official, through his acquaintances, demanded $7,000 from a businessman in exchange for a favorable resolution of a criminal case opened under the fraud article of the Criminal Code.
Additionally, the official demanded another $500 to close a criminal case related to a fire at the businessman's restaurant, which resulted in a worker suffering burn injuries.
During an operational operation, the department head was caught red-handed while receiving an advance payment of $2,500 of the requested amount.
A criminal investigation is currently underway. The fight against corruption in law enforcement agencies continues.
