Uzgidromet, Uzbekistan's meteorological service, has issued an emergency warning regarding heavy rains expected from June 20 to 22.
According to forecasters, mudflow and flood events are possible in several foothill and mountainous areas, and accumulation of rainwater may lead to local flooding of territories.
Uzgidromet Director Sherzodkhuja Khabibullakhuja announced that the following areas are at risk: Kashkadarya region (Yakkabag, Dekhkanabad, Chirakchi, Kitab, Shakhrisabz, Kamashi, Guzar districts), Surkhandarya region (Sariasiya, Uzun, Altynsay, Denau, Baysun, Sherabad, Shurchi, Kumkurgan, Muzrabat districts), Samarkand region (Urgut, Samarkand, Bulungur, Nurabad, Koshrabad, Kattakurgan, Payaryk, Jambay, Ishtikhan districts), Navoi region (Khatyrchi, Navbakhor, Nurata, Kanimekh, Karmana districts), Jizzakh region (Zaamin, Bakhmal, Gallaorol, Sharaf-Rashidov, Farish, Yangiabad districts), Tashkent region (Akhangaran, Bostanlyk, Parkent, Pskent, Urtachirchik, Yukorichirchik districts, as well as the cities of Angren and Almalyk), Namangan region (Pap, Kasansay, Chartak, Chust, Namangan, Yangikurgan districts), Fergana region (Sokh, Shakhimardan, Fergana, Besharyk districts), Andijan region (Andijan, Asaka, Djalakuduk, Kurgan-Tepe, Pakhtaabad, Izbaskan, Khojaabad, Markhamat districts and the city of Khanabad).
The meteorological service also warned that intense precipitation in some areas could lead to rainwater accumulation and local flooding of certain territories.
Forecasters urged residents of foothill and mountainous areas, vacationers, and drivers planning trips to mountainous areas to take precautionary measures.
