A criminal case has been opened in the Bulungur district of Uzbekistan following the suicide of a 6th-grade student from School No. 22. The incident occurred on March 5 of this year, according to Abdurashid Tashanov, chairman of the human rights society 'Ezgulik'.
Forensic examination revealed that 12-year-old Diyorbek Akbarov died from asphyxiation. The report also noted bodily injuries caused by a hard object. The investigation found that these injuries may have resulted from a beating with a wooden ruler by the class teacher (a woman).
According to the human rights activist, the student was punished by the teacher for joking about a classmate. After returning home in a depressed state, he soon took his own life. The activist noted that the child was wearing his school uniform at the time of the incident.
The victim's mother, Zarifa Shodmonova, stated that she had appealed to various state bodies for several months after the incident. A letter from the Bulungur district prosecutor's office dated June 3 indicates that a criminal case has been opened under Article 103, Part 2, Clause 'b' (Incitement to Suicide) of the Criminal Code.
According to the mother, she has not yet been interrogated as a victim, and there is no official information about suspects in the case. No official comments have been received from the Ministry of Preschool and School Education or law enforcement agencies.
