The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide financing for the digital modernization of Uzbekistan's national railway operator.
In the first such project in the country's state sector, the EBRD will provide a loan of up to €38.4 million. The funds will be used to introduce digital systems for managing train traffic and transport flows, as well as to strengthen cybersecurity.
Uzbekiston Temir Yollari operates a railway network of about 6,950 km and handles up to 40% of freight traffic in the country. The project plans to automate dispatching, planning, and operational control processes, replacing manual operations with modern digital solutions.
Special attention will be paid to implementing cybersecurity systems in line with international standards, which is expected to increase the reliability and safety of railway transport.
According to the report, the EBRD has invested about $6.9 billion in Uzbekistan across 210 projects to date.
As is known, Uzbekiston Temir Yollari and the EBRD signed an agreement to implement the project on introducing information systems for transport and mainline traffic management, as well as enhancing cyber resilience, on June 17 during the fifth Tashkent International Investment Forum.
“The project is aimed at further digital transformation of the railway industry, improving transport management processes, and increasing the company's operational efficiency. The implementation of the project will create modern conditions for the development of railway transport and improve the quality of services provided,” the press service of Uzbekiston Temir Yollari said.
