A major fire broke out in a non-residential building in the 'Soybuyi' mahalla of Yazyavan district, Fergana region. The building was used for frying and selling fish during autumn and winter, but recently it was illegally storing petroleum products.
The fire was caused by an explosion of diesel fuel. The blaze damaged 60 square meters of the building and three vehicles — a Labo, Hyundai, and Mercedes-Benz.
According to Abdulaziz Goyipov, deputy chief physician of the Yazyavan district medical association, three people were hospitalized: A.Kh. (born 1976) and Z.O. (born 1999) with second- and third-degree thermal burns, and O.O. (born 2012) with 100% body burns, respiratory tract burns, and severe burn shock. Despite medical assistance, the 14-year-old patient died. Two others remain in critical condition.
Akhliddin Alijonov, head of the emergency prevention department of the Fergana regional emergency management authority, said that two bodies were found at the scene when rescuers arrived. Three injured were rushed to the hospital.
'The fire was caused by a violation of safety regulations during the transfer of petroleum products. Preliminary information indicates that citizens illegally stored petroleum products in the non-residential building. The cause of the fire and the amount of damage are being determined,' Alijonov said.
