On June 12, a Cobalt car speeding in Urgench lost control and crashed into a cafe, injuring two people. The regional traffic department (UBDD) reported that the victims sustained 'minor scratches,' but medical documents obtained by Kun.uz reveal severe injuries.
According to Kun.uz, the 20-year-old driver, identified as I.I., was speeding at an intersection and sharply turned the steering wheel to avoid a collision, losing control. The car smashed through the door of the 'Coffelito coffee' cafe and entered the premises. Two young men aged 20 and 21 inside the cafe were injured.
The UBDD response stated that one victim had a 'scratch on his left hand' and the other a 'scratch on the right side of his face,' and that they received first aid and were sent home. However, medical reports obtained by the editorial board show far more serious injuries: one victim has a vertical fracture of the left lower jaw, a fracture of the left occipital bone, traumatic changes to the head, and damage to cervical spine segments; the other has a ruptured fibrous ring, dural sac deformation, spinal canal stenosis, and other injuries. One of the victims remains hospitalized.
According to a Kun.uz source, the driver's father is connected to the internal affairs system and is allegedly trying to influence the investigation.
