Uzbekistan national team head coach Fabio Cannavaro commented on the team's heavy 0-5 loss to Portugal in the second round of the group stage at the World Cup, stating that he is still proud of his squad.

Uzbekistan remains without points after two matches but still has mathematical chances to advance to the playoffs through the best third-placed teams ranking.

"Of course, the first participation in the World Cup could not be easy. After the draw, seeing Colombia and Portugal, we expected a very difficult group," Cannavaro said.

Despite the scoreline, the coach insisted the team did not give up. "After the game against Colombia, I also said I was proud of my team, and today I am proud too. Because I saw them. Yes, they faced difficulties, but they never gave up for a second," he noted.

Cannavaro added that the match against Portugal was part of a valuable experience for Uzbekistan at their first-ever World Cup. "Of course, it is always hard to play against a team with high-level players in all positions. Without a doubt, they came onto the field with great motivation. But as I said, this World Cup is an experience for us," the head coach stated.

Earlier, it was reported that Portugal defeated Uzbekistan 5-0 in the team's second match at the World Cup.
