Uzbekistan plans to attract investors to modernize 50 construction enterprises operating at low capacity. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has ordered the approval of a program and completion of the work by the end of the year.
At a specialized videoconference meeting, the head of state noted that existing capacities for cement, basalt, glass, and ceramic tiles cover the country's needs until 2035. Investors should now be directed not toward increasing volumes, but toward creating high-margin products.
For example, a ton of basalt fabric costs $900 compared to $340 for a ton of basalt fiber. The country mainly produces cement grades 400 and 500. Attracting investors to 17 idle plants to produce special types of cement will open new markets.
The task was also set to create an electronic platform listing construction materials with local and international certificates. This will help buyers choose verified domestic products.
By the end of the year, another 50 enterprises will receive assistance in obtaining international certificates. The industry has a system of full reimbursement of certification costs, but due to the lack of a unified database, many buyers prefer imports.
This year, it is planned to launch over 900 new projects worth $11 billion, commission 622 projects worth $3.2 billion, and create 21,000 jobs. Production volume will exceed 65 trillion soums, localization will reach 7.5 trillion soums, and exports will be brought to $1.5 billion.
