Users in Uzbekistan have been receiving links to supposedly harmless online votes for 'best grandfather', 'best grandmother', 'best dad', or 'best mom'. However, the Cybersecurity Center warns that these links are a trap designed to hijack Telegram accounts.

The scheme works as follows: the victim receives a message asking them to support a contestant by voting. The link leads to a website that mimics a legitimate contest page. To vote, the user is asked to log in via Telegram, which requires entering a code sent to their messenger.

This code is the key to the account, and sharing it with third parties is strictly prohibited. Once the scammers obtain the code, they gain full access to the account and begin sending messages to the victim's contacts, often impersonating the account owner and requesting urgent money transfers.

The Cybersecurity Center emphasizes that such 'votes' and 'contests' are frequently used as bait to gain unauthorized access to user accounts. They urge users to never enter Telegram codes on third-party websites or share them with anyone, even if the link comes from a known contact.

This warning follows a recent incident in Tashkent where cybersecurity officers detained a young man suspected of stealing over one billion soums from a local company's account, highlighting the growing threat of cybercrime in the region.
