The Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan announced the completion of the first program funded by the 'Ishonch' (Trust) Fund, established under a restitution agreement between Uzbekistan and Switzerland. A total of $43.5 million was allocated to develop the maternal and child health system.

The project, titled 'Every Mother and Child Lives and Thrives: Reducing Maternal and Child Mortality in Perinatal Centers of Uzbekistan,' began in September 2023 and was implemented in cooperation with UNICEF, UNFPA, and WHO. The funds were used to strengthen the material and technical base of perinatal facilities.

Across the country, 231 perinatal institutions were equipped with modern medical equipment. Over $31 million was spent on incubators, ventilators, anesthesia systems, and other equipment. More than 80,000 healthcare workers received advanced training in modern perinatal care, management of complicated pregnancies, care for premature infants, and laboratory diagnostics. Additionally, 49 clinical protocols were developed or updated.

Swiss Ambassador Konstantin Obolensky noted that the return of illegally acquired assets and their transparent use is a priority for Switzerland, and the 'Ishonch' Fund is a vivid example of how returned funds can improve the quality of life for the population.

The 'Ishonch' Fund was established based on the restitution agreement between the governments of Uzbekistan and Switzerland and is jointly managed by representatives of Uzbekistan, Switzerland, the UN, and civil society. In the future, the fund plans to implement new projects in healthcare and education.
