Tashkent, Uzbekistan – AN Podrobno.uz. Twenty-four universities from Uzbekistan have been ranked among the world's top 1,000 in the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, which assesses higher education institutions' contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The best-performing Uzbek universities were Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature named after Alisher Navoi and Tashkent State University of Economics, both placed in the 101–200 group. The 201–300 group included the National University of Uzbekistan and the National Research University Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers.
Three more universities — Bukhara State University, Samarkand State Medical University, and Termez University of Economics and Service — were placed in the 301–400 group. In total, 24 Uzbek universities made it to the top 1,000, with another 21 in the 1001–1500 group and five in the 1500+ category.
Uzbek universities also achieved high rankings in specific SDGs. Tashkent State Technical University ranked fifth globally and Fergana Polytechnic Institute sixth in "Affordable and Clean Energy." Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature ranked eighth in "Gender Equality."
For comparison, in 2021 only 12 Uzbek universities were featured in the THE rankings, rising to 30 in 2022, 47 in 2023, 53 in 2024, and 59 in 2025.
