Fabio Cannavaro, head coach of the Uzbekistan national football team, will not fly back to Tashkent with the squad after their World Cup campaign, reports Championat.asia.

According to the sports publication, Cannavaro will fly from the United States to Italy. “We have been together with the team for two months, now we all need a little rest. I will fly from New York to Italy and see you in September,” Cannavaro said.

Under the Italian specialist, the team participated in the World Cup for the first time in its history. In the first match, Uzbekistan lost to Colombia 1-3. Abbosbek Fayzullayev scored the only goal — the first goal in the national team's World Cup history.

In the second round, Cannavaro's charges lost to Portugal 0-5. After the match, the head coach stated he takes responsibility for the result but emphasized his pride in the team.

In the final group stage match, Uzbekistan lost to DR Congo (1-3), failed to advance to the playoffs, and ended their tournament participation.

Following the team's World Cup exit, some bloggers and journalists expected a press conference with the head coach and national team representatives upon their return to Tashkent.
