Uzbekistan's national currency, the som, was introduced on July 1, 1994, based on a decree issued on June 16 of the same year.

The first banknotes were issued in denominations of 1, 3, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 som in 1994. Later, 200 som (1997), 500 som (1999), 1000 som (2001), 5000 som (2013), 10,000 and 50,000 som (2017), 100,000 som (2019), 2,000 and 20,000 som (2021), and 200,000 som (2022) banknotes were introduced.

To mark the occasion, Gazeta.uz has prepared a quiz based on som banknotes. The quiz tests knowledge of the currency's history and design changes.
