The government of Uzbekistan has adopted a resolution banning the hunting of rare and endangered wild animal species from August 1, 2026, to January 1, 2028.

According to the document, when forming and distributing quotas, it is prohibited to allocate limits for species covered by this ban. This measure aims to preserve natural resources and protect biodiversity.

However, the restrictions do not apply to animals kept or bred on farms, in nurseries, incubators, fish farms, and ponds. Their use for scientific and medical purposes is also permitted.

A separate measure provides for the restoration of water resources. From August 1, 2026, to January 1, 2030, rivers and canals flowing through the republic's central cities will be annually stocked with at least 15 tons of juvenile fish. The list of species will be compiled by specialists from the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change and the Academy of Sciences.

Earlier, a case of illegal hunting was detected in the Surkhandarya region. A resident of Tashkent killed 13 wild hares near the Uchkul lakes in the Termez district. The violator will have to pay a fine and compensate for the damage caused to nature.
