Uzbekistan has adopted a law aimed at improving the system for protecting women who have suffered from harassment and violence. The document also enshrines the concept of 'the best interests of the child' and expands the powers of social protection institutions.
One of the key innovations is the legally established concept of 'the best interests of the child' and guarantees for their implementation. These are conditions where priority is given to the well-being, safety, health, and full development of the child. This includes the right to grow up in a family, receive an education, and protection of honor, dignity, and personal integrity. When making decisions, the child's opinion and individual characteristics must now be taken into account.
In addition, organizations within the National Social Protection Agency system, including rehabilitation and adaptation centers for women, have been granted the right to go to court in the interests of victims without paying state fees and to represent them in court hearings.
It has also been established that placing a victim in a specialized center is grounds for issuing her a temporary disability certificate for up to one month.
Earlier, the Second Asian Women's Forum adopted the Bukhara Declaration, aimed at expanding the role of women in politics, economy, science, education, and public life in Asian countries.
