The performance of Uzbekistan's national football team at the World Cup has sparked mixed reactions among fans. Some blame the head coach for the three defeats, while others point to the immense pressure on the players and their lack of experience.
A newspaper conducted a street survey in the capital, asking football enthusiasts to evaluate the team's play and share their thoughts on the reasons for the losses. Nearly all respondents singled out two players from the Uzbekistan national team — Abbos Fayzullayev and Eldor Shomurodov — for special praise. According to them, Fayzullayev stood out for his activity and dedication on the field, while Shomurodov acted as a true leader.
"I liked the game of Abbos and Eldor. They really didn't spare themselves. This was especially noticeable in Abbos. He ran where his teammates didn't, played with all his might. I think everyone saw and felt it," said one fan.
Most fans believe the players lacked experience, clear tactics, and confidence. One fan suggested that strong opponents and the stadium atmosphere put pressure on the players. "There was a lack of tactics. There was a bit of fear and excitement because they were playing against leading teams. The pressure of the stadium also had an effect," he said.
Another fan argued that the large expenditure on a foreign coach was not justified. "The coach is 100% to blame. If the goal was to lose, why spend so much money on a foreign coach? If we had appointed a local coach, the result would have been the same," said another football enthusiast.
At the same time, some called for supporting the players rather than criticizing them. "The team made a name for itself on the world stage for the first time. I don't see any major shortcomings. Reaching the World Cup is a huge achievement. See you at the World Cup in four years. Now the team needs to work even harder on itself," said another fan.
"The world doesn't stop here. This is the first step. In the future, we can reach the World Cup again. From us, only praise and support for the players. The guys tried. Criticism should be reduced. Healthy criticism is fine, but the most important thing is to boost the team's morale," another fan commented.
