Uzbekistan's Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov met with the new Ambassador of Algeria, Jamila Ashour, who officially began her diplomatic mission in the country.

During the meeting, the minister received copies of Ashour's credentials. The sides discussed the implementation of agreements reached following the official visit of the Uzbek delegation to Algeria in June this year.

Special attention was paid to developing cooperation in trade, economic, investment, educational, and cultural spheres. Mutual readiness to further expand partnership was confirmed.

The minister wished Jamila Ashour success in her diplomatic activities in Uzbekistan.

Ashour replaced Mohamed Irki, who had served as head of Algeria's diplomatic mission from 2023 to 2026.

Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Algeria were established on June 30, 1992. In May of this year, Uzbekistan's first ambassador to Algeria, Mansurbek Kilichev, was accredited.
