A 47-year-old woman has been arrested in the Asaka district of Andijan region for allegedly attempting to hire a hitman to kill her ex-husband, according to the regional Internal Affairs Department.
The woman reportedly planned the murder of her 54-year-old former spouse, with whom she was still living, due to a property dispute. She allegedly sought a contract killer for $3,000 to carry out the killing.
Law enforcement officers set up an operation, involving a decoy hitman. On July 10, the woman met the supposed killer and paid an initial 5 million soms, promising the remainder after confirming the death, for which she wrote a receipt.
On the night of July 11, the decoy staged the murder: he took the ex-husband to a hillside, applied makeup to simulate death, and called the woman to the scene. After she saw the apparent corpse and was convinced, she got into a car to pay the remaining sum, at which point she was arrested with evidence.
The suspect reportedly expressed remorse. She has been charged under Article 25 and Article 97, Part 2, Clause “i” of the Criminal Code (attempted murder for hire). If convicted, she faces 15 to 25 years in prison or life imprisonment.
