Tashkent, Uzbekistan – AN Podrobno.uz. Starting July 1, all non-state schools, kindergartens, and educational centers in Uzbekistan are required to install video surveillance systems inside and outside their buildings. The cameras must operate 24/7, transmit real-time footage, and record audio.

The amendments were introduced to the Unified Regulation on Licensing of Certain Types of Activities by a Cabinet of Ministers resolution dated May 21, 2026.

Under the new requirements, camera recordings must be stored for at least six months. The Ministry of Preschool and School Education is tasked with overseeing compliance. The rules apply both to existing private educational institutions and those currently applying for a license.

Failure to comply may result in license revocation under the Law on Licensing, Permitting, and Notification Procedures.

In public schools, video surveillance systems have been introduced over the past few years. For instance, a decree by the Tashkent mayor on August 29, 2025, mandated cameras in 10th and 11th grade classrooms across all capital city schools to monitor attendance and educational quality.

Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan's Social Protection Agency is proposing amendments to the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes to strengthen liability for violence against children.
