Uzbekistan is discussing the launch of a Barcelona FC football academy, aimed at developing youth football and training players to international standards. The project was the focus of an online meeting involving Sports Minister Adkham Ikramov and representatives of the Spanish club.
The discussion also included First Vice-President of the Uzbekistan Football Association Ravshan Irmatov, Barcelona executive board member Cesar Martinez, and head of Barça Innovation Hub Albert Mundet.
The main topic was the potential opening of Barça Academy, the club's official international academy, which would train children and teenagers using the La Masia methodology, one of the world's most renowned football schools.
The parties reviewed the player training system, coach development, and the introduction of modern football philosophy. They also focused on identifying and nurturing talented young players.
Central Asia already has experience with such academies: the first Barça Academy opened in 2023 in Jalal-Abad, and a second is being prepared for launch in Bishkek.
Following the meeting, the sides agreed to study the feasibility of the project in Uzbekistan. Cooperation prospects in coach training and football infrastructure development were also discussed.
Earlier, it was reported that the Navbahor football school in Namangan was placed under the management of the famous Ajax academy from the Netherlands for a three-year term.
