In the first half of 2026, Uzbekistan recorded a 25% decrease in crimes committed by young people compared to the same period in 2025, according to Deputy Interior Minister Ramazon Ashrapov, who spoke at a press conference on July 14.

Ashrapov, who also heads the Investigation Department, reported a total of 14,342 preventable crimes nationwide in the six-month period, down by 2,309 from the previous year.

Crimes by women fell by 251 to 663, youth crimes dropped by 996 to 2,872, crimes by previously convicted individuals decreased by 72 to 979, and crimes by unemployed citizens fell from 830 to 574.

However, juvenile crime increased by 4.5%, with 907 offenses recorded compared to 868 in 2025. The rise has raised concerns among law enforcement.

Earlier, Deputy Higher Education Minister Sardor Rajabov noted that student crimes fell 19% to 585 in the first 11 months of 2025, driven by desires for easy money, financial difficulties, and personal conflicts.
