Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy reported that on July 16, daily electricity consumption in the country's unified energy system reached 291 million kWh, a new record for the summer period. This figure is 18.4 million kWh (6.7%) higher than last year's maximum.
The same day also saw a record in electricity generation — 295.4 million kWh, which is 4 million kWh more than the previous day.
According to the ministry, demand for electricity has increased, and power lines and equipment located outdoors are heating up under high temperatures, raising the risk of overloads and damage.
"To prevent serious accidents, dispatch services are temporarily reducing the load on certain sections of the power grid. In some areas, electricity may be cut off for short periods — up to two hours," the statement said.
Some consumers in several regions were temporarily left without power: in Kashkadarya region — 1,750 consumers in Kukdala and Chirakchi districts; in Jizzakh region — 1,200 consumers in Sharaf Rashidov and Zaamin districts; in Khorezm region — 1,300 consumers in Shavat, Gurlen, and Kushkupyr districts; in Tashkent region — 1,000 consumers in Tashkent and Zangiata districts.
The ministry emphasized that temporary measures are necessary to protect equipment and prevent large-scale outages that could require lengthy repairs.
Residents were urged to use electricity sparingly during the extreme heat and, if possible, limit the use of powerful electrical appliances unless necessary.
