Just days after its grand opening, the new 'Vatanparvar' amusement park in Samarkand experienced its first major incident. A power outage caused all rides to come to a halt, leaving visitors on the Ferris wheel—reportedly the tallest in Central Asia—stranded at height.
The sudden blackout triggered panic among guests, especially families with children, as they waited in suspended cabins for the electricity to be restored.
Park officials stated that the complex receives power from the 'Garbiy' substation via feeder line 226 and transformer points under the park's management. The outage was caused by a technical malfunction in one of the transformers. Specialists quickly resolved the issue, and rides resumed normal operation.
The incident has once again highlighted the critical importance of reliable safety systems at such facilities. Modern amusement rides should have backup power sources or emergency descent mechanisms to ensure visitor safety during unexpected power failures.
The 'Vatanparvar' park opened on July 15, costing approximately $10 million. Spanning 7 hectares, it can accommodate over a thousand visitors at a time. The project also includes walking areas and family recreation spaces, creating around 150 jobs.
