The Uzbek authorities have decided to extend until the end of the year the subsidies on air transportation of meat, which were introduced in the spring to curb price growth on the domestic market. This was announced at a video conference chaired by the president.

Since April, importers of beef and lamb have been compensated for 50% of the cost of air delivery, but not exceeding $0.8 per kilogram. Initially, the measure was set to expire on August 1.

The meeting also revealed plans to import 100,000 head of cattle and 150,000 sheep and goats by the end of the year. To support the sector, 1 trillion soums were already allocated from the Agricultural Fund in May for livestock projects, with an additional $50 million to be provided from the Reconstruction and Development Fund.

These funds will allow entrepreneurs to obtain concessional loans at 10% per annum: up to 5 billion soums for creating livestock complexes and up to 20 billion soums for developing pedigree cattle breeding. Loans will be issued for a term of 10 years with a four-year grace period.
