A tragic industrial accident occurred at the Muruntau open-pit mine operated by the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combinat (NMMC) in Uzbekistan. On July 21 at 5:30 AM, a massive BelAZ haul truck ran over a service pickup truck, instantly killing two employees of the combinat.
The incident was first reported on social media and later confirmed by the NMMC press service. The identities of the deceased workers have not yet been released pending notification of their families.
Law enforcement agencies have launched a pre-investigation probe, and state supervisory bodies have initiated an inquiry to determine the exact causes of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest possible human error or technical failure, but no official conclusions have been made.
The management of NMMC expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims. The company stated that additional safety measures are being implemented across the mine to prevent such tragedies in the future. The accident has raised concerns about workplace safety in Uzbekistan's mining sector.
