The initiative was discussed during an online meeting with the renowned American scientist.

Gregg Semenza, a professor at Johns Hopkins University, received the Nobel Prize in 2019 for his discovery of the HIF-1 mechanism, which allows cells to detect oxygen levels and adapt to changes. He is currently one of the world's most cited scientists, with over 150,000 references to his research.

During the meeting, Agency Director Abdulla Azizov spoke about the development of scientific research, the introduction of innovative technologies, and the creation of the BioPharma City biopharmaceutical cluster.

The parties also discussed prospects for biopharmaceutical development in Uzbekistan, strengthening the modern scientific school, and expanding international cooperation.

If the scientist agrees, his participation in the International Scientific Council will strengthen Uzbekistan's position on the global scientific stage, improve research quality, and establish long-term cooperation with leading experts in medicine and pharmaceuticals.

Earlier, Uzbekistan found a way to reduce the cost of foreign medicines by five times.
