A traffic police officer in Samarkand struck and killed a pedestrian while driving a patrol car, according to the regional traffic safety department. The incident occurred on July 21 at approximately 6:15 PM on Shabbod Street.
The officer, driving a Tracker patrol vehicle assigned to him, hit 75-year-old S.A., who was crossing the road at an undesignated location. The woman died at the scene from her injuries.
Photos circulating on social media show significant damage to the front of the patrol car, indicating the force of the impact.
According to Hayot Shamsutdinov, spokesman for the Prosecutor General's Office, the Samarkand city prosecutor's office has opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 266 of the Criminal Code (violation of traffic safety rules resulting in death). An investigation is underway.
The tragedy highlights the importance of road safety for both drivers and pedestrians. Authorities urge caution and adherence to traffic regulations.
