The unique climate of Surkhandarya allows for 3–4 harvests per year – a record unmatched by any other region in Uzbekistan. Warm weather, fertile soils, and natural features enable crop cultivation even in winter without additional costs.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated this at a meeting in Surkhandarya, emphasizing that developing household farms plays a key role in ensuring food security and increasing population incomes.
In Termez, a "Household Farming School" operates, teaching modern agricultural methods and cultivating high-profit crops. It also instructs on processing, storage, and packaging technologies. Special attention is given to supporting unemployed and low-income families and forming sustainable income sources.
The innovative school covers Termez, Muzrabad, Kizirik, Bandikhan, Angor, and Jarkurgan. It includes a training building, greenhouses on three hectares, and an experimental plot of similar size. Here, crops adapted to local conditions are grown, such as bananas, papaya, rosemary, lavender, lemons, figs, broccoli, bell peppers, and others. Nursery farming and floriculture are also developed, with a drip irrigation system implemented.
Following Termez's example, such schools will be established in Uzun and Denov districts. They can train up to 10,000 people annually. In the future, plans include opening two such innovative schools in each region of the country.
Additionally, lemon plantations will be created on five thousand hectares in Denov, Altynsay, Sariosiyo, and Uzun districts, while a three-year program for growing export grapes will be implemented on six thousand hectares in Altynsay.
The president also highlighted the importance of promoting a national brand of dried dates and figs in Uzun district, based on Japanese experience.
Previously, Mirziyoyev was briefed on the results of a nearly $300 million water project in Surkhandarya.
