Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Ethiopia and South Africa, Ashraf Khodjayev, held meetings with officials from both countries, reports the Dunyo news agency.

According to reports, the diplomat held talks with Ethiopia's State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hadera Abera, and Sandive Fadana, a representative of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the talks, the parties discussed simplifying visa procedures for Uzbek citizens, prospects for introducing a mutual visa-free regime, and creating more favorable conditions for travel.

At the conclusion of the negotiations, an agreement was reached to boost cooperation in tourism, trade, economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres by simplifying visa procedures.

As of August 1, 2025, Uzbek citizens can obtain an electronic visa (E-visa) to visit Ethiopia. According to the requirements of South Africa's Ministry of Home Affairs, Uzbeks must obtain a visa in advance to enter the country. There is no option for visa on arrival or visa-free entry.
