President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has concluded a working visit to Surkhandarya region, which included a tour of a basalt slab production facility in Termez district.
According to the presidential press service, Mirziyoyev visited the Surkhon Sandwich plant, which produces basalt slabs and other construction materials. The $26 million enterprise can process 30,000 tons of basalt annually and produce goods worth 345 billion Uzbek soums.
95% of raw materials come from deposits in Altynsay district. The plant features modern Chinese equipment and has created 200 jobs. Finished products are supplied not only to the domestic market but also to Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
The President instructed to improve quality, increase localization levels, and boost exports, while also emphasizing the need to establish a research institute for construction materials.
Earlier, the President pledged to address an accident at the "25 Years of Independence" gas field, which occurred in September last year in Boysun district of Surkhandarya region.
