Erkin A'zam was born on August 10, 1950, in the Boysun district of Surkhandarya region. After finishing high school in 1967, he enrolled in the journalism faculty at Tashkent State University (now the National University).

He worked at the republican radio, at the magazines 'Gulistan' and 'Yoshlik', and at the Gafur Gulyam Publishing House of Literature and Art. Since 1995, he served as the editor-in-chief of the 'Tafakkur' magazine. From 1992 to 1994, he worked at the National Information Agency of Uzbekistan and was also a deputy in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

His creative career began with the story 'Inson' (Human) in 1966 in a regional newspaper. In 1977, his collection of stories 'Chiroqlar o'chmagan kecha' (The Night When Lights Didn't Go Out) was published. In 1981, 'Otoyining tug'ilgan yili' was released, followed by 'Olam yam-yashil', 'Javob', and 'Bayramdan boshqa kunlar' in 1984-1988. In 1998, he was awarded the title 'Honored Journalist of Uzbekistan'.

His works 'Shajara', 'Jannat o'zi qaydadir?', 'Farrosh kampirning tushi', 'Xonadon egasi', and 'Tanho qayiq yoxud devonaning orzusi' have been adapted for the stage. He is also the screenwriter for films such as 'Chantrimore', 'Piyoda', 'Pakana', 'Dilxiroj', 'Erkak', and 'Zabarjad'.

The writer's legacy holds a special place in Uzbek literature and culture. His works continue to be cherished by readers today. To mark the anniversary, a quiz was prepared based on the works of the recipient of the 'For Selfless Labor' order.
