An attempt to illegally export precious metals valued at 1.1 billion soums to India was thwarted at Namangan International Airport. The State Security Service (SSS) reported this.

A joint operation was conducted by officers of the SSS department for Namangan region and the regional customs department at the airport. During the operation, five citizens residing in Andijan and Fergana regions, who were intending to fly to India on the Namangan–Delhi route, were subjected to a special inspection.

The inspection revealed that they had attempted to secretly export gold bars with a total weight of 555 grams and 200 grams of jewelry abroad, using their internal organs as a "live container." According to preliminary estimates, the total approximate value of the precious metals attempted to be exported is 1.1 billion soums.

Currently, a pre-investigation check is being conducted on the matter. Earlier, at the "Navoi" border customs post, an attempt to illegally export currency and gold using children was exposed. One of the women had hidden nearly 200 grams of gold bars in the lining of a baby's shoe, while another had hidden $40,000 under the clothing of her 14-year-old daughter.
