Tashkent may increase public transport fares from 1,700 to 2,500 soums when paying by electronic card. A corresponding draft has been put forward for public discussion, which will last until September 19.

The Ministry of Transport explained the proposed increase by saying that the current tariff covers only part of transportation costs, with the main financial burden falling on the state budget. According to the ministry, public transport in the capital carries about 2.5 million passengers daily. In recent years, the bus fleet has almost doubled to nearly 1,900 vehicles, and the average interval between trips has been reduced from 30 to 15 minutes.

At the same time, carriers' expenses include salaries for drivers and machinists, fuel and electricity costs, repairs and spare parts, depot maintenance, cabin cleaning, and the operation of electronic payment systems. The Ministry of Transport emphasized that a possible fare increase should be accompanied by requirements for the quality of transportation. In particular, this includes adherence to schedule regularity and intervals, technical condition and cleanliness of transport, passenger safety, and service quality.

A final decision on the fare increase has not yet been made. The draft is open for public discussion until September 19, after which proposals will be considered. Earlier it was reported that with the start of the new academic year, the Tashkent Metro reduced train intervals during peak hours. On the Chilanzar line they are 1.5–2 minutes, on the Uzbekistan line — up to three minutes, on the Yunusabad line — up to four.
