President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the RomPharm NS pharmaceutical enterprise in Tashkent’s Almazar district, inspecting drug production and expansion plans. Under a €45 million project, the company aims to boost output of import-substituting medicines.

The plant has created 150 jobs, with about 90% of production processes automated. Equipment was supplied by companies from Italy, Germany, Austria, the US, Switzerland, and Bulgaria. Currently, RomPharm NS produces drugs for neurological and cardiovascular diseases, metabolic regulation, and inflammatory conditions.

In the future, the enterprise plans to increase annual capacity to one billion tablets, 500 million capsules, and 120 million sachets. The production complex and control laboratory operate according to EU GMP standards. According to the presidential press service, the plant is focused on reducing the domestic market’s dependence on imported medicines.

During the visit, Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of further expanding production based on modern technologies and creating new jobs. He was also presented with plans for the plant’s further development.

Earlier reports noted that Tashkent remains Uzbekistan’s largest pharmaceutical production center: in January–July, capital enterprises produced goods worth 2.1 trillion soums, or nearly 60% of the national total. Overall, in seven months Uzbekistan produced pharmaceutical products worth 3.5 trillion soums — 20.7% more than in the same period last year.
