On September 11, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, at a meeting with Tashkent city activists, stated that amid growing global threats, it is crucial to maintain unity, cherish peace, and accelerate reforms. The head of state noted that alarming events are occurring in the world, and it is necessary to be aware of one's identity.
"There are upheavals in the world, many dangerous events are happening. Threats are increasing. To prevent these threats, we must know ourselves. An expression has emerged: 'Who were we yesterday, who are we today?' We must never forget this and must appreciate it," said Shavkat Mirziyoyev. According to him, the value of the changes carried out is manifested primarily through work and people's satisfaction with the results of reforms.
"When will we appreciate it? When we work, when the people are satisfied. Of course, today, seeing the Almazar district, seeing the changes that have occurred, one understands that it is possible to do, do you like this too?" — said the head of state. The President also linked domestic reforms with the country's foreign policy. "You see for yourselves that in our foreign policy, the main goal is to find friends and seek partners for our reforms. A partner means trust, persuasion, life itself forces us to work only for results," said Mirziyoyev.
The head of state reported that over the past three to four years, about 2,500 young people have been sent abroad to study in various fields. He also recounted a conversation with a female student who won a large scholarship to study in Malaysia but decided to stay in Uzbekistan. "I entered the top 20 and won Malaysia's largest scholarship. But after hearing about the opportunities you are creating for us here, I decided to study in Uzbekistan. My parents also agreed," the president quoted the girl as saying. Shavkat Mirziyoyev linked this to the expansion of opportunities within the country, including the establishment of Presidential and specialized schools, as well as new universities.
"If we had not created the Presidential school and specialized schools in due time, would these results have been possible?" — he asked. According to the president, when reforms began, higher education coverage was 9 percent, but now this figure has reached 44 percent. The number of higher education institutions has increased to 207. "In these difficult conditions, 44 percent [coverage], 207 universities did not appear by themselves. There is one thing behind this — our path is correct," said Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The President emphasized that he considers education a decisive factor for the country's further development.
"I never tire of repeating one thing. Our fate is decided only and exclusively by the teacher, education, and knowledge. In all spheres. If we do not put education in order, we will not achieve anything," he said. According to him, the pace of reforms must constantly increase. "My goal today is that every day is a gain. Today we must work more than yesterday. Yesterday's plan does not fit today. What do we need to implement such reforms? We need unity, solidarity, peace. We must appreciate this peace," said Mirziyoyev.
In conclusion, Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that Tashkent should be an example for the whole country and cited China as an example: "Do you know why the Chinese miracle happened? 1.4 billion population. The whole nation firmly tied their belts, both elders and young people, women — everyone looked in one direction and performed a miracle." At the meeting, the head of state stated that the hokims of 12 districts of Tashkent must identify land plots for large shopping complexes and malls, investors, and funding sources by October 1. In parallel, based on the "Qichqiriq" experience, it is planned to improve 400 mahallas and allocate 10 trillion soums for this. Officials at the republican and city levels will weekly visit Tashkent districts and meet with investors. Issues requiring high-level resolution must be sent to the Presidential Administration on the same day. This new procedure will operate under special control until the end of the year.
