Uzbek grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov will face the biggest challenge of his career — a match for the world chess championship title. His opponent will be the reigning champion Gukesh Dommaraju of India. The tournament will take place in Geneva from November 22 to December 13, 2026.

This will be the youngest world championship match in history — both players will be 20 years old at the start. For Gukesh, it will be his first title defense. Sindarov earned the right to play for the crown after a stellar season: the Uzbek won the World Cup and then became the winner of the Candidates Tournament.

The match is scheduled for a maximum of 14 classical games. The winner will be the first to score 7.5 points. The first game will take place on November 24, and the 14th, if needed, is scheduled for December 11. In case of a tie, a tie-break is planned for December 12.

At stake are the chess crown and a prize fund of $2.5 million. Each victory in classical chess is worth $200,000, with the remaining amount to be split between the opponents.

For Sindarov, this is the biggest test of his career: at 20, he could enter history as the first world champion from Uzbekistan. Earlier, the Uzbek chess player rose to second place in the world Live Rapid rating with 2742.6 points.
