Authorities in Tashkent have uncovered a scheme for illegally obtaining results on the international SAT exam, which is used for admission to foreign and some local universities. According to law enforcement, proxies remotely completed the test assignments on behalf of applicants in exchange for money.

Investigators say the organizers rented space in a private school in the Yangihayot district and equipped a special room for conducting exams. The scheme primarily involved students from a branch of a European university in Tashkent, as well as a student from a branch of an Asian university. An IT company specialist was also recruited. According to the investigation, he gained access to the exam system, after which scheme participants could remotely solve tests instead of the applicants.

Payment was demanded for obtaining the desired result. One participant reportedly asked five individuals for $1,500 each. He managed to receive payment from one of them via a cryptocurrency wallet.

The operation was conducted by officers of the State Security Service for the Tashkent region together with the regional Internal Affairs Department. A criminal case has been initiated against the participants under Article 168 ("Fraud").

Earlier, it was reported that a large-scale scam involving preferential loans worth nearly 17 billion soums was uncovered in the Tashkent region. More than 400 people suffered from the actions of a group that promised assistance in obtaining interest-free loans.
