Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced at a meeting in Nukus that Karakalpakstan should become one of the largest centers for green energy production in the coming years. The head of state noted that 860 MW of new energy capacity has been commissioned in the republic in recent years.

As a result, electricity generation has increased fourfold, reaching 5.33 billion kWh. This is nearly three times the annual demand of the population and enterprises. Thanks to the construction of wind power plants in Beruniy and Qorao‘zak districts, the share of green energy in total production has reached 23%.

The day before, the president launched several projects and initiated the construction of new ones. Among those launched are two wind power plants with a total capacity of 300 MW in Qorao‘zak district and a 100 MW energy storage system. A large 1.5 GW wind power plant is under active construction in Qo‘ng‘irot district.

The $2.6 billion project is being implemented jointly with Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power. A 1,500 km high-voltage transmission line will be laid, three 500 kV substations will be built, and two more will be modernized.

By 2030, wind power plants with a total capacity of 3,300 MW are expected to be commissioned, and the share of green energy should rise to 76%. Additionally, 400 MW of energy storage facilities will be built. These projects will be an important step in developing Karakalpakstan's economy and ensuring energy security.
