President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced at a meeting on the socio-economic development of Karakalpakstan that a high-speed train on the Tashkent-Nukus route will be launched in March 2027. This will reduce travel time from 16 to 7 hours.
Important steps to improve transport infrastructure were announced at the meeting. In particular, with the Asian Development Bank, 240 kilometers of the A-380 highway passing through Kungrad have been fully converted to concrete pavement at a cost of $384 million. Yesterday, construction began on another 92 kilometers of the road passing through Tortkul, Ellikkala, and Beruniy districts. The cost of this project is $233 million. As a result, transit will increase 1.5 times, and cargo entering Tortkul will reach the border with Kazakhstan in 10 hours instead of a day.
Major changes are also taking place in the social sphere. A modern sanatorium has opened in Bozatau, an oncology and radiology center in Nukus, and a children's hospital and maternity ward in Kungrad. Amphitheaters with 2,000 seats each have been commissioned in Amudarya and Tortkul, a gymnastics center and a Conservatory branch in Nukus. Reconstruction of the "Tuyamuyin" water treatment facility and the laying of 100 kilometers of drinking water network from Kungrad to Muynak will also begin.
The President noted Karakalpakstan's potential in land, minerals, solar and wind energy, and large pastures. Based on these opportunities, a new industrial and investment map will be created covering the chain "from resources to finished products." The "Kungrad — Karaozak — Takhtakupir" direction will become Karakalpakstan's "green industrial corridor" — an "intellectual economy triangle." In a special zone established for artificial intelligence and data center projects, 6 projects worth $8 billion will be implemented.
Officials have been tasked with developing a five-year program by October 1 and ensuring a stable 1 gigawatt power supply for investors. The task was set to create 1,500 high-income jobs in Nukus, Kungrad, Karaozak, and Takhtakupir within three years, and to increase annual exports in cloud technologies and artificial intelligence to $600 million.
