A joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Vanuatu was signed in New York, according to the Dunyo news agency. The document was signed on behalf of the two governments by Uzbekistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ulugbek Lapasov, and the head of Vanuatu's mission to the UN, Odo Tevi.

During the ensuing talks, the parties emphasized the importance of strengthening close cooperation within international organizations, primarily the UN and its specialized agencies. This step is aimed at enhancing Uzbekistan's activity on the international stage and expanding ties with the Pacific region states.

Vanuatu is an island nation in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, in the Melanesia region. Its population is approximately 350,000. The economy is based on agriculture (copra, cocoa, coffee), fishing, and tourism. Additionally, offshore financial services and citizenship-by-investment programs also generate significant revenue for the country's budget.

The establishment of diplomatic relations is of strategic importance for Uzbekistan, opening new opportunities not only politically but also economically. In particular, prospects for cooperation in trade, economic, cultural, and tourism spheres are expected to be considered.

It is worth noting that Vanuatu, despite being a small island state, has a voice in the UN and other international organizations. Therefore, establishing ties with this country could play an important role in supporting Uzbekistan's global initiatives.
