On the morning of October 7, 2026, commuters on the Tashkent subway system faced unexpected disruptions after a technical failure immobilized a train at the 'Shakhristan' station, raising fresh concerns regarding infrastructure reliability.

According to statements from the metropolitan transport service, the incident involving train composition No. 69 occurred precisely at 08:22. Notably, the rolling stock in question allegedly dates back to 1985, underscoring ongoing challenges with aging machinery despite official assertions of fleet modernization.

The malfunction forced the train to halt for six minutes during peak commuting hours, after which passengers were reportedly forced to evacuate the carriages. The defective train was subsequently redirected for a technical inspection, while a reserve composition was deployed to normalize line operations, prompting the metro administration to issue an apology.

Authorities previously claimed that the capital's subway network received 14 new train sets consisting of 56 cars ahead of the academic year in 2026. However, recurrent technical hitfalls with older units suggest that structural upgrades remain incomplete or insufficient to guarantee uninterrupted daily service.
