Officers of the State Security Service have reportedly intercepted a substantial shipment of illegal narcotics smuggled across the border from neighboring Afghanistan. The operation took place at the "Ayritom" border customs post located in Uzbekistan's Surkhandarya region.
According to official details, a Mercedes-Benz heavy freight truck arriving from Afghanistan and driven by a 1985-born resident of the Termez district was subjected to a rigorous and detailed inspection by customs and security personnel.
During the comprehensive search, authorities discovered a total of 98 wrapped packages cleverly concealed beneath the floorboards of the vehicle's trailer. Laboratory analysis allegedly confirmed the seizure of 39 kilograms and 86 grams of hashish, alongside 9 kilograms and 498 grams of opium.
Investigators noted that the traffickers went to considerable lengths to avoid detection, initially packing the narcotics in polyethylene bags before wrapping them in foil and securing them tightly with adhesive tape. A criminal case has been initiated under the country's penal code, while ongoing investigative measures are underway to track down the ultimate organizers and financiers behind the shipment.
