According to the press service of the State Security Service, law enforcement agencies have successfully thwarted another major attempt to smuggle illicit drugs across the national border. Border troops, acting in close cooperation with customs authorities, seized a total of 48.5 kilograms of narcotics originating from Afghanistan.

The operation took place at the "Ayritom" border customs checkpoint, where a Mercedes-Benz freight vehicle driven by a 41-year-old resident of the Termez district was subjected to a thorough inspection. The vehicle had reportedly entered the country from the neighboring state.

Upon a detailed structural check underneath the trailer's flooring, inspectors uncovered 98 hidden packages containing 39 kilograms and 86 grams of hashish, along with 9 kilograms and 498 grams of opium. The traffickers had allegedly wrapped the substances in multiple layers of polyethylene, foil, and adhesive tape in a calculated attempt to evade detection.

A criminal case has been officially initiated in connection with the incident, while investigators are actively working to identify the masterminds and customers behind the smuggling operation. Authorities noted that a similar interception occurred on October 1 at the exact same checkpoint, when custom officials seized another 52.6 kilograms of hashish and opium hidden beneath the floorboards of an empty truck.
