A leadership transition has taken place in the Syrdarya region, with Doniyor Kodirov designated as the new acting governor. Local media reports indicate that the appointment follows a series of high-level government reshuffles.

Kodirov steps into the role previously held by Erkinjon Turdimov, who had been managing the region since January 2025. Turdimov was recently elevated to the positions of first deputy prime minister and minister of education and science.

Prior to this gubernatorial assignment, Doniyor Bakhtiyarovich Kodirov served as the head of the Department of Public Safety and Rule of Law under the Presidential Administration. His career includes significant tenure within various law enforcement bodies.

Throughout his professional background, Kodirov has managed the Main Department for Transport Security under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and directed the Counter-Terrorism and Extremism Department between 2018 and 2019.

His administrative experience also encompasses roles as deputy adviser to the president on coordinating law enforcement and control agencies in January 2021, later becoming the presidential adviser for the same sector in August 2023, prior to shifting to the presidential administration.
