Over the past five years, Uzbekistan has carried out extensive engineering works to protect 373 water bodies from mudflows and floods. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, more than 625 billion soums have been allocated for these crucial infrastructural initiatives across the country.

Authorities report that the implemented measures have successfully increased the safety level for more than 130,000 residents living in vulnerable areas. The engineering efforts covered rivers, canals, streams, and other water bodies, focusing heavily on riverbank reinforcement and the construction of protective barriers.

Throughout the five-year period, specialists completed massive earthmoving operations amounting to 19.8 million cubic meters. Furthermore, the construction projects utilized 148 million cubic meters of stone, 247,000 cubic meters of concrete, and more than 4,000 tons of metal structures.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations also noted that these protective works safeguarded over 20,000 hectares of agricultural land, 48 schools, 19 preschool institutions, 5 summer camps, and approximately 1,600 other socio-economic facilities, alongside 17 mosques and cemeteries.

In a related context, reports earlier indicated that Uzbekistan registered about 2,200 earthquakes between January and September. To enhance seismic monitoring capabilities, the country integrated its domestic station data with information from neighboring Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan.
