A severe natural calamity in the mountainous areas of the Dehkanabad district, located in Uzbekistan's Kashkadarya region, has resulted in a tragic fatality. According to local emergency services, a sudden and violent flash flood overwhelmed the area, exposing ongoing vulnerabilities in regional disaster response and infrastructure safety measures.
The incident unfolded on October 13 at approximately 17:30 in the village of Shakarbulak within the Kungrat mahalla. A short-duration but exceptionally heavy downpour triggered a massive wall of water rushing down from the surrounding slopes. Reports indicate that the driver of a Damas vehicle, having lost their way, stopped in a high-risk zone prone to seasonal flash floods in an attempt to reorient themselves.
While parked, the vehicle unexpectedly lost traction and slipped into a deeper section of the active flood channel. The driver managed to escape the car just in time, attempting to call for help and warn the passenger of the imminent wall of water. However, the ferocious current swept the vehicle and the trapped passenger away before any rescue could be initiated.
Following intensive search and rescue operations, the body of the passenger was recovered from the debris. Responsible authorities and emergency crews were swiftly dispatched to the scene. This disaster occurred despite prior warnings issued by Uzhydromet regarding potential mudflows and flash floods across several regions of the country, raising fresh questions about the efficacy of local hazard communication.
