Officers of the State Security Service, in close cooperation with the anti-smuggling department of the specialized customs complex «Tashkent-AERO», have successfully intercepted a major attempt to illegally import a large batch of potent pharmaceutical substances into the country. The operation highlights ongoing efforts by local authorities to clamp down on transnational drug trafficking channels.

According to official reports, the operation culminated at a courier company office in Tashkent, where two local residents aged 26 and 28 were apprehended red-handed while collecting a suspicious parcel originating from the People's Republic of China. Preliminary checks confirmed that the suspects were fully aware of the illicit contents.

Upon a thorough physical inspection of the intercepted package in the presence of witnesses, law enforcement discovered an alarming quantity of the potent substance known as Pregabalin. The total weight of the seized medical contraband amounted to a staggering 24 kilograms and 974 grams, posing a significant potential threat to public health and safety.

In the wake of this seizure, a criminal case has been formally initiated under Part 1 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which deals with smuggling offenses. The suspects have been placed in pretrial detention while investigators continue comprehensive operational and search procedures to identify any additional accomplices involved in the scheme.
