A new natural gas and condensate field named "Borisoy" has been discovered in the Guzar district of the Kashkadarya region. The discovery is the direct result of ongoing geological exploration efforts aimed at expanding Uzbekistan's domestic hydrocarbon reserves and strengthening national energy security.
According to state-owned operator Uzbekneftegaz, drilling of the exploratory well in the vicinity of the major Shurtan field commenced on August 5. Geological crews made rapid operational progress, successfully sinking the well to a target depth of approximately 3,100 meters within a compressed timeframe.
Subsequent downhole testing conducted by specialists from Uzbekgeofizika confirmed a robust industrial inflow of natural gas and condensate from carbonate strata situated between 2,800 and 3,000 meters below the surface. Preliminary test figures indicate a sustained yield of between 300,000 and 400,000 cubic meters per day. Experts are currently analyzing reservoir characteristics to accurately appraise the commercial capacity of the new field.
Following the completion of technical and safety evaluations, the extracted gas is scheduled to be routed into processing facilities, with supplies intended for end consumers starting October 15. Furthermore, operators plan to spud a second exploratory well on the Borisoy structure before the end of the year to gain a clearer understanding of the geological formation and formulate precise reserve estimates.
